ProcessVolunteers are recruited, trained and organized into small teams to read on a weekly basis during the school year in kindergarten and prekindergarten public school classrooms. Volunteers commit to read for 15-30 minutes per week around lunchtime for at least two months. We take care of all of the arrangements: the books, the scheduling, training, etc. to make it easy for our volunteers. Teachers even approve the books in advance of our volunteers reading! Service AreaThis is an on-going program and is conducted by Love Helps, inc. at no charge to schools. Public schools in Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County, Tennessee (our current service area for this program) may contact us for a LEADING by READING Program Request Package. StatisticsDuring the 2008-2009 school year, there were 9 Metro. Nashville Public Schools who are participating in the LEADING by READING program. Last year, 750 books were read to more than 570 K & Pre-K students by 68 volunteers with wonderful feedback from teachers! Since 1996, over 8,000 children's books have been read to Nashville's kindergarteners and pre-kindergarteners. |
